Like us I imagine you were pretty excited about finding a new home. We were first time buyers and like most people had worked damn hard to afford the countless charges, fees and associated costs. Just saving a decent deposit is hard enough but we'd done it. When you see the show homes with the slick banners and lifestyle adverts all over the place you're aware it's only a couple of models pretending to be happy but it all adds up to create the marketing dream. Yeah, it's all a bit sickly but a home is something special, it should be a time to enjoy. When we went to look at the Turners development on the Newport Pagnell Road in Northampton the build stage was very early and we paid a deposit for our home off plan. It was a two bedroom flat on the top floor of three. We got a big glossy folder from Wimpey explaining various details and congratulating us on reserving a home with the 'House Builder of the Year'.
Whilst we were waiting for the house to be built we finished our rental agreement and moved back to my parents' house for the last few months. It meant storing just about everything in friends and families garages but it was only for the summer months so damp and cold would not be a problem. We went to visit Mawsley Village to pick our floor finishes, kitchen units and other finishing touches. As you'd expect that was a great thing to do and just added to the anticipation of our first home. We chose some extras and waited to hear of the progress as the 'House Builder of the Year' diligently built our home.
